Elmore Leonard was an American novelist, short story writer, and screenwriter. He was born on October 11, 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was best known for his crime novels and stories, many of which have been adapted into motion pictures. He wrote 45 books during his lifetime, including the novels Get Shorty, Out of Sight, and Rum Punch. He also wrote for television and film, including the TV series Justified and the films 3:10 to Yuma and Jackie Brown. He was awarded the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2012. He died on August 20, 2013 at the age of 87.
